ABOUT RECOVERY COACHING…

Recovery Coaching is not therapy, sports coaching, or consulting. It is a specialty in Life Coaching that can help you discover who you are and what you really want from life. The philosophy of coaching is quite simple; human beings are capable of accomplishing more than we give ourselves credit. There have been people who have come from modest means and have reinvented themselves into something more. These individuals have become a success to themselves, communities and families. We are all on a journey and a path to self discovery. For some this journey has taken them off track and they have lost sight of themselves and their purpose. For others, the journey has been difficult and trying to figure out “what’s next?” has been a challenge.

Recovery Coaching can help you find the steps needed to rebuild your life so that you can become empowered. As a Recovery Coach, we will work as a team to assist you with finding your attributes, address areas of your life that need improvement and the roadblocks that are hindering you from your goals. Sometimes when life hands us lemons we get stuck on the lemons that we forget about the rest of the ingredients that make the lemonade. Recovery Coaching looks at those ingredients so that you can clean up your life, have more clarity, and be more focused and driven. It is not enough to want to have a changed life, you have to put that desire into action so that you can be the creator and designer of your life.

About Latonia

Latonia was born in the city of “Brotherly Love”, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania during the 1960s. Although the city coined the phrase, “Brotherly Love”, it was a far cry from reality. Being raised in a working middle class family had its share of heartache and challenges. Her parents, determined to provide a better life for her and her siblings, sacrificed to put Latonia into private school and eventually a private boarding school. It was there that Latonia learned that having a dream is not enough without the proper tools and goals needed to make that dream a reality.

Latonia had dreams of becoming a physician; however things changed for her during her life’s journey. It was in her early 20s that she had experienced severe trauma. After surviving several assaults and a botched abduction, her dreams of becoming a physician seemed to be shattered. She had difficulty concentrating and become severely depressed. She managed to piece together her life little by little by taking baby steps. She believed that the only way to recover from hardships is to have determination, motivation and a destination so that “you can remove the fog of the past to see clearly what’s ahead for you”.   Latonia reinvented herself and realized that she could become a healer in another way. She has since graduated from college with an Associates degree in Biotechnology, a Bachelors degree in Psychology, an author in two scientific research journals, a speaker, and currently pursuing a Masters degree in Community Counseling. In addition, she holds a Certification in Addictions Counseling and is a Certified Professional Coach.

One of the biggest challenges Latonia has faced has been that of being an Addictions Counselor. She has witnessed countless individuals struggle with the “what’s next?” after spending several weeks and often, months in a treatment program. Often, these individuals become frustrated because they do not know how to develop sustainable goals. As a result, these individuals lose track of what is important. This is what Recovery Coaching is all about. It does not take the place of treatment, but does help to unlock some of the roadblocks that hinder growth.

Latonia believes that recovery also entails setting appropriate and realistic goals. “You can dream but without goals your dream is just that a dream. The determination that you have is the catalyst to motivate you into action and once you are motivated then the sky is the limit. Sometimes we short change ourselves with our limiting beliefs. If you think that you cannot accomplish anything then you won’t. You can only accomplish what you set your mind to do. Regardless of the obstacles in your way, you can accomplish great things with your mind. Foremost, you have to believe that you can”.

What People Say About Latonia

“She’s warm, friendly, humorous and an excellent listener. She helps you figure out where you are going and how to get there. For example: I was stuck on how to apply for a state contracting application with my business and Latonia helped to guide me through that process. I am now moving forward with my business and hopefully will be a state government contractor in a couple of months“. Candare G., Maryland

"I wanted to give you an update of my progress thus far, but before I do, I have to let you know how much I appreciate you. I wanted to send you a note to thank you again for your help.  Our sessions have been amazing!  You have no idea how much you have put me back on track with my business and personal projects.  Your suggested organizational system has made focusing on one project at a time a breeze.  I no longer feel pulled in zillion directions, allowing me to get more work done.  My thought processes has also began to changed thanks to your guidance. They really are power and I intend to use my power for good. I am on track with the plans we have laid out for the year and, slowly yet steadily, I'm moving forward without fear or hesitation.  It's amazing the clarity you can obtain once you stop, breathe and listen to the direction that is being given to you.  As the former queen of "jump in first, and figure it out later", it's a wonderful feeling to know I can give myself permission to walk through the process and not jump ahead of myself. Thank you for listening (even through the whining and scattered thoughts) and giving me the tools I need that will work for me." Clesha S., Pennsylvania
